William Eggleston

Eggleston takes images momentarily. When he shoots, he does it after thinking about it, but doesn't exactly think about it. He didn't know anything about photography, he taught himself. His most famous image is of the red room/ ceiling at his friends house, who later passed away. The room is used to represent blood, death, sadness. He says that red is a very difficult colour to work with. He says its like red is trying to compete with all the other colours. He has lived in the same place for many many years, but he still finds images to capture that aren't repetitive. His work is quite boring and seems pointless but there is more behind it all. He says when people ask him what his work is about, he says the best way to answer them, is to say 'It's now'. His work is relevant; capturing images of here and now, everyday life. He has met many different artists and hung out with them, such as; Andy Warhol and Gary Winogrand.

He taught himself how to play the piano and other instruments.
